NEX South
NEX South, San Antonio:
The I-35 NEX South project is a three-phase effort to improve about 8 miles of I-35 on San Antonio’s east side by adding capacity, modernizing interchanges, and enhancing safety. Phase 1 (I-410 South to I-410 North) is a $700M design-build project adding elevated general-purpose and HOV lanes, finishing in 2028. Phase 2 (I-410 South to North Walters) is a $301M design-bid-build segment currently in design. Phase 3 (I-35/I-410 South to FM 78) is an $84.5M design-bid-build project starting construction in 2025 and finishing in 2028, reconstructing I-410 at FM 78 and upgrading intersections. Together, these phases support the broader I-35 NEX Program to reduce congestion and improve long-term regional mobility.
